Sanskrit Mantra: Om Hreem – Pure transparent awareness is my essential nature.
Day 7 and this brings us to the end of week one and what an enriching week it’s been for me. The theme of this experience is always applicable in my opinion but I think it even more so especially given this time of year. With the holidays upon us and all of us looking toward the close of one year and beginning of another there’s so much that runs through our minds and people we want to see and places we’d like to be. However, this day’s centering thought sums up everything we are learning on this journey: the only real time is here and now. So, despite where we’ve come and what may transpire for us all we really have is what comes with and in the present moment.
One of the day’s journal prompts reminded us of the discussion on how worry is an example of the mind creating a false sense of reality by trying to protect us from anticipated hurt. It was said that two of the greatest time illusions are 1) our belief in the false-present, i.e. believing that we are in the moment but are really consumed by thoughts of what came before and/or our expectation of what’s to come and 2) that we are creating change by escaping from the here and now, but we’re really not.
We are graciously reminded that we are not our thoughts, merely the observers of them. That being said, we possess the ability to turn down the chatter in our minds and tune in to the awareness of being. I find that when I’m able to maintain my vigilance in the quality of my thoughts and to where and whom I channel my energy I am better equipped to stand squarely in whatever it is I am doing and with whomever I am doing it. This never fails to result in a deep and meaningful exchange for myself and others. I am grateful that I can give completely of myself, and am elevated when others do it while they are engaged with me as well. I feel this is a profound showing of respect, honor and gratitude to be able to share time and space with myself and others.
Please send us your thoughts and feedback on this meditation experience – your voice matters tremendously! This is the last meditation experience of 2017 hosted by Deepak Chopra and Oprah Winfrey via the Chopra Center Meditation organization. It kicked off on October 30th and we’re really excited with the theme: Making Every Moment Matter.
