If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath. – Amit Ray
We’re easing into Week 2!! Day 8 – The Wounds of Time Can Be Healed – brings us another opportunity to continue this journey into exploring time, our relationship with it and cultivating new habits and mindsets about it. The day’s centering thought: I heal my past by being in the present continues to speak to the work we’re doing to release the hold our old hurts have on us, or rather, that we continue to hold on to.
During this day’s meditation we are taught that we are able to turn our wounds into wisdom and we have the ability to take any situation and find an opportunity for change, healing, forgiveness, awareness, etc. It was said that spiritual disturbances lose their power the moment we stop pushing against them – I believe this to be true in my own life. These “emotional debts”, as they’re described, can weigh heavy on us and give us a reason to remain caught up in mental, emotional and spiritual turmoil. Sometimes we feel the heaviness of these emotions so deeply that we can start to feel the physical manifestations of bodily discomfort. This is not a state of being many of us enjoy, would you agree?
While I did a couple of the day’s journal prompts I actually want to dial in on something Deepak shared as we prepared for meditation. He said that for him, the old saying “time heals all wounds” can be interpreted as a passive approach to playing an active part in our healing, It may imply that if given enough time, our hurt will heal on its own. That sets up a scenario where we ourselves aren’t playing an active role in the recovery of whatever we had experienced and instead we are relying on time to do that work for us. Yet, time isn’t what gets us out of bed, wills us to put one foot in front of the other and show up to this thing called life everyday – we do! Time allows us the space and opportunity in which to move but we are doing the work. This was important for me to hear and something that very much resonated. It’s giving ourselves credit that’s due and meant to be acknowledged. Getting over, through and past old hurts or remaining diligent in the present moment to save from becoming anxious about the future takes effort, our effort. This process may take more or not so much time but the fact the we’re honoring ourselves by continuing to live life is a testament to just how equipped we are to enact change and healing in our own lives!!
We look forward to your thoughts and feedback on this meditation experience – your voices matter greatly! This is the last meditation experience of 2017 hosted by Deepak Chopra and Oprah Winfrey via the Chopra Center Meditation organization. It kicked off on October 30th and we’re really excited with the theme: Making Every Moment Matter.
